Traitor, or Truth?

Pastor Paul Strozier

“Christendom marks the time in history when Christianity's prominence was in every detail of an individual's life. Christianity was the foundation by which society's culture was formed. The moral of society, the faith by which life was lived, and the values that established how individuals were to live became the marks of Christendom.”

“…a post-Christian society is historically based in Christian ideas and follows simplified Christian values, but rejects the authority of Christianity and does not consider it the basis of either its ethics or its culture…a post-Christian society selectively claims virtues rooted in a Christian worldview, while selectively rejecting the truths that make those values possible.”

What does it mean to follow Jesus in a time that is “Post-Christendom” and “Post-Christian”?

John 15:18-19 - “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

John 16:1 - “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away

John 11:25-26 - “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Jeremiah 26:2 - “Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people…”

Jeremiah 26:8-9 - “Kill him!” they shouted. “What right do you have to prophesy in the Lord’s name that this Temple will be destroyed…?”

Jeremiah 26:10 - When the officials of Judah heard what was happening, they rushed over from the palace and sat down at the New Gate of the Temple to hold court.”

Jeremiah 26:12-15 - “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this Temple and this city,” he said. “The Lord gave me every word that I have spoken. But if you stop your sinning and begin to obey the Lord your God, he will change his mind about this disaster that he has announced against you. As for me, I am in your hands—do with me as you think best. But if you kill me, rest assured that you will be killing an innocent man!

Jeremiah 26:24 - Nevertheless, Ahikam son of Shaphan stood up for Jeremiah and persuaded the court not to turn him over to the mob to be killed

Go where the Lord sends you.

Say what the Lord tells you.

“Don’t get impatient, remember how God dealt with you—with patience and with gentleness; but never water down the truth of God. Let it have its way and never apologize for it. Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples,’ not—make converts to your opinions.”

Leave the results up to God.

Matthew 9:37-38 - “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
