1. The Story of Job
Job 1:1 - There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.
Job 1:12 - “All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan.
Job 1:21 - He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!”
2. God is Banker
Eliphaz the Temanite - Job chapters 4-5, 15, 22
Job 4:8 - My experience shows that those who plant trouble and cultivate evil will harvest the same.”
Job 6:29 - "Stop assuming my guilt, for I have done no wrong.”
Job 16:9 - “God hates me and angrily tears me apart.”
3. God is Lawyer
Bildad the Shuhite - Job chapters 8, 18, 25
Job 25:4 - “How can a mortal be innocent before God?”
Job 19:6-7 - “But it is God who has wronged me…I protest, but there is no justice.”
4. God is Punisher
Zophar the Naamathite - Job chapters 11, 20
Job 11:6 - “Listen! God is doubtless punishing you far less than you deserve!”
Job 20:23, 28 - “May God rain down his anger upon them…God’s anger will descend on them in torrents…”
Job 21:4 - “My complaint is with God, not with people. I have good reason to be so impatient.”
Job 21:19 - “I say he should punish the ones who sin, so that they understand his judgment.”
Job 27:5-6 -" I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die. I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live."
5. God is God
Elihu son of Barakel - Job chapters 32-37
Job 32:12 - I have listened, but not one of you has refuted Job or answered his arguments.”
Job 33:12 - “…you are wrong, and I will show you why. For God is greater than any human being.”
Job 37:24“- All who are wise show him reverence.”
Job 40:2 - “Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?”
Job 42:1-6 - "Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
6. God is God - and I am not
Proverbs 9:10 - Respect and obey the Lord! This is the beginning of wisdom. To have understanding, you must know the Holy God.
