MP Hunger Initiative

The MP Missions Hunger Initiative seeks to meet the hunger needs in the community through relationships with those in need, as well as other area resources and agencies. The Hunger Initiative intentionally seeks avenues for the Madison Park congregation to provide for the needs in the community. Current Hunger Initiative projects are the Anderson High School food boxes, Pirate Pantry at Anderson Intermediate School, and food rescue efforts within the church and into the community.

Food Boxes for High School Students

Students who struggle with hunger rely on the meals provided at school. 2 week breaks for students is extremely challenging,  so we partner with the school social worker to provide boxes filled with meals for the students'  breaks. It is our goal to provide at least 100 full boxes for each break.

We encourage anyone to pick up a Yellow Bag from one of the stands around the church. This is a simple reminder to fill it up with items and return it to the collection crate in the Mission Corner. Each bag will have a packing list and the information for the next Packing Party.

Pirate Pantry

Second Harvest Food Bank partners with local schools to implement an initiative called The Big Idea. From the Second Harvest Website: "Our goal with The Big Idea Initiative is to help raise parent engagement by strengthening the relationships between the school and the families. We turn routine food distributions, filling a need week to week, into an opportunity to connect teachers, parents, and local organizations, helping students create plans and opportunities towards a successful future." Madison Park Church is partnering with Second Harvest by providing the volunteers for the Pirate Pantry distribution which takes place monthly at Anderson Intermediate School.

The Pirate Pantry is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Volunteers are needed for set-up from 3:45-4:45pm as well as for the event from 4:45-6:30pm. If you would like to get involved, please email or call our Local Missions Coordinator, Casey Getzin, or visit the Missions Corner to learn more.

Madison County Food Rescue Initiative

An initiative birthed out of the Madison County Local Food Network that is piloting food rescue efforts out of Madison Park Church. The mission of this initiative is to create awareness and avenues in the local community around eliminating excessive food waste. All events at Madison Park Church that involve catering, are required to work with us to create a Food Rescue Plan. The goal is that no food prepared for an event at the church will go to waste, but will be given to a local agency serving those who struggle with food insecurity.

To learn more about the Food Rescue Initiative efforts or to get involved, email or call our Local Missions Coordinator, Casey Getzin. Or stop by the Missions Corner on Sundays.
